Our Appreciation

April 24, 2024, my husband, and I were told by the doctors that our son Kyle was gone. My faith in God is solid. I know to trust in God, but I didn’t know how to handle this unimaginable grief. The pain of seeing my family suffer such a tremendous loss was unbearable. Looking ahead to a life without Kyle was devastating.

I googled, “how to handle unbearable grief”. I googled it twice, the first time there were two YouTube videos that came up. One was of a husband whose wife lost her battle to cancer. The other was a young wife whose husband took his life. I thought, these stories wouldn’t help me. About 2 weeks later, I googled the same topic, and again these 2 stories popped up. This time I watched them. They were relevant, they did help me.

How to handle unbearable grief – Talk about your loved one. If you can, set up a foundation.
I can talk about my amazing son; I am so proud of the life Kyle lived.

How to handle unbearable grief – Realize that sorrow and joy can co-exist.

Rob, Ann & Andy would like to thank the following:

Fort Worth Youth Soccer Association

We are grateful for Janet Norman, Executive Director of FWYSA, for giving us a platform to share a piece of Kyle’s story. From the very beginning, Janet gave me all the support I needed. What I needed was for people to know how awesome my son was.

Pinkerton Law Firm & Associates

I am so grateful for Jody and Kim Pinkerton. I met Jody when I moved to Texas 20 years ago. He was a referee, and we worked games together. Jody is one of the most generous men I have met. When I called him, asking for help with setting up the Kyle Hicks Memorial Fund, he replied, “Done, it’s done Ann.”

Hayden Vick & Riley Pearce

Hayden Vick is a longtime family friend. We met Hayden and his family shortly after moving to Texas. We asked Hayden for help with setting up a website. He got on the task, and you are reading all this thanks to Hayden Vick and Riley Pearce.

Family, friends, and co-workers

We are thankful for the hundreds of people who prayed for Kyle, his family and us. We thank you for the support, the kindness and caring about Kyle’s beautiful family. There are so many people that we could thank, and hopefully, we have directly. What I will add, share with you – Kindness is everywhere. Love, support and generosity are everywhere.

Senior Officer Denise Pace and the entire Corpus Christi Police Department

From the moment we entered the hospital, Denise Pace, our family's Peer Support Officer, was with us every step of the way. She walked our family through this nightmare. She treated our family with top priority, respect and she treated our son with honor.

Corpus Christi Medical Center

The doctors, nurses did all that they could. They treated our son with respect, dignity, and honor. The care and support was so loving. Our son was an organ donor. The “walk of honor” was powerful.

Tunnel To Towers

This organization is incredible. Established after 9/11. If you don’t know about this organization, check it out. They CARE about our first responders and their families. They took care of Kyle’s family and bought them a home.

“I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” Psalm 9:1
